Heart of the Horse Workshop

~ An introduction to horse companionship ~

Step through the gate and leave the human world behind…

For three hours, open yourself to understanding horses — from the horse’s point of view.

Horses live with a profound level of awareness that we, as humans, can learn from — both in our relationships with horses and in our own lives.

For a horse, being present is simply a way of being. They are always listening and sensing: testing the air, noticing movement, feeling the energy of those around them and sharing the company of others — horse and human.

Heart of the Horse is an introductory, experiential workshop that invites you to explore this way of being.

Through individual, paired and small-group activities, we’ll explore:

  • Breath and presence — slowing down and becoming more aware of ourselves and our surroundings.
  • Sensory awareness — paying closer attention to what we see, hear, smell and feel.
  • Body language — noticing the emotional responses, facial expressions and subtle physical signals that humans and horses are continually communicating.
  • Energy and boundaries — becoming aware of the energy we project and discovering how intention and energetic presence can affect the space between us.
  • Grooming for connection — experiencing the simple, mutual pleasure of hands-on grooming as a way of building trust and relationship with a horse.

As highly evolved prey animals, horses are hard-wired for awareness. They notice what we often overlook. Much of what they perceive, we perceive too — but not always consciously.

By spending time together in their world, we begin to appreciate what horses can teach us about living in the moment, communicating without words and connecting with greater awareness.

And perhaps, when you step back through the gate three hours later, you’ll carry a little of the horse’s way of being with you.
